My Story
For most of my adult life, I lived fast and a little disconnected. I worked long hours, commuted too much, and treated my home like a place to sleep not a place to live. By my late 30s, I felt constantly tired and strangely unsettled, even when everything on paper looked “fine.” What I didn’t realize then was how much my environment was draining me instead of restoring me.
It started with one small change. I bought a houseplant from a local garden centre near Sutton Coldfield just a simple fern. I put it by the window, and something about watching it grow pulled me in. Soon, I was rearranging furniture to let in more light, clearing clutter, and spending more time outside. My weekends shifted from scrolling on my phone to pottering in the garden.
Writing had always been part of my life, but now I had something real to write about: how home decor and gardening can quietly change how you feel, think, and live. That’s where my path as a home and garden author really began.
The Turning Point
The true turning point came during a particularly rough spring. I’d just come through a stressful period at work and was close to burning out. One Saturday morning, rain tapping on the kitchen window, I found myself staring at my garden muddy, overgrown, and neglected, much like I felt inside.
Instead of avoiding it, I pulled on my boots and went out anyway. The air was cold and smelled like wet soil. As I cut back dead branches and turned over the earth, I felt something shift. My hands were busy, my mind finally quiet. By the time the rain stopped, so had the constant noise in my head.
That afternoon, I sat inside with a cup of tea, muddy and tired, and realized something simple but powerful: tending to your space is a form of self-respect. From that day on, I stopped seeing home decor and gardening as hobbies. They became tools for balance, healing, and clarity.
What I Learned the Hard Way
At first, I tried to do everything “right.” I followed trends, copied magazine layouts, and planted things that looked good online but didn’t suit my soil or lifestyle. Most of it failed. Plants died. Rooms felt cold and staged. I wasted money chasing perfection instead of comfort.
I also struggled with impatience. I wanted quick results fast makeovers, instant gardens. But nature doesn’t work that way, and neither does a meaningful home. I learned that forcing change usually leads to frustration.
The biggest lesson? Your space should work for you, not the other way around. When I stopped comparing and started listening to my home, my garden, and my own needs everything became simpler and more sustainable.
My Approach Now
Today, my approach is slow, practical, and deeply personal. I start with how a space feels, not how it photographs. Is it calm? Is it functional? Does it support the way you actually live?
In the garden, I focus on what thrives naturally in the local climate. I choose low-maintenance plants, work with the seasons, and accept that imperfection is part of the beauty. A messy garden can still be a meaningful one.
Through my writing, I share ideas that are realistic, affordable, and rooted in everyday life. No pressure. No perfection. Just thoughtful changes that make your home and garden feel more like you.
What I Believe
- Your home should support your wellbeing, not just your schedule.
- Gardening teaches patience better than any self-help book.
- Natural light, plants, and simple materials change everything.
- A beautiful space doesn’t need to be expensive or trendy.
- Small, consistent changes are more powerful than big, rushed ones.

A Little More About Me
When I’m not writing or gardening, you’ll usually find me walking the lanes around Curdworth, visiting local markets, or reading books on design, nature, and simple living. I love strong coffee, quiet mornings, and old notebooks full of half-finished ideas.
I’m still learning every season about plants, people, and myself. That ongoing curiosity is what keeps me grounded and inspired.
Let’s Connect
If any part of my story resonates with you, I’d love to hear from you. Whether you’re just starting out with plants or rethinking your home, you don’t have to do it alone.
I believe the best spaces grow from shared ideas and honest conversations. Your journey matters, and I’d be honoured to be part of it.
